Soon. Forever.

Hey there.

Thanks for stopping by this website; I am very glad that you take a bit of your time to visit it. At this point in time, this place is just a simple memorial and an archives room.

I believe that Between The Zones ran its course as a project. However, from time to time, I still enjoy playing some old songs, and sometimes I do it live on the Twitch channel that I started messing with during the 2nd wave of Covid lockdown. I usually stream music on Thursdays or Fridays depending on my available free time, and I always have a few BTZ songs in my repertoire (it does include the "Ozar Midrashim" cover). If you happen to catch me there, feel free to ask me to play something for you! Here's the URL: https://www.twitch.tv/gompilote

I am working on new music, but after many months of consideration, I think it won't be published under the Between The Zones moniker. Musically though, there might be some connections. It seems that no matter what I do, I always end up trying to combine industrial sounds, shoegaze and metal into pop songs... Some things never change, I guess.

This is farewell for now. Thanks again for being there. Take care of yourselves ♥

New EP: Sediment

Hey there!
As announced in the video from earlier this week: here is a new EP, entitled SEDIMENT.
Official presentation:

Between The Zones is back with the release of the short and intense EP "Sediment". While a significant amount of elements from these five tracks was conceived at the same time than "Troubles", the second album from BTZ released in 2017, the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 and the two lockdown-periods that it caused in France allowed the finalization of the EP.

"Sediment" is a raw field trip which draws from the core elements of the BTZ sound to expand them into the future.

Key words: industrial, alien, lockdown, vampires, Melchiah. And it's all for free.

Feel free to comment, and share if you enjoy it đź’› Thanks for your everlasting support!
Take care, especially in these troubled times~

Evidence 2013

Today we release "Evidence 2013", our first full live album.

This concert was recorded live on October 18th, 2013 at the Secret Place in Saint-Jean-de-Védas, when we opened for Hypno5e. It was an important date for several reasons.
First, of course, opening for Hypno5e- they are a very respected French metal band, they have toured everywhere and with massive international bands, and they are from Montpellier as well!
Second, this show was taking place at the Secret Place- one of Montpellier/St-Jean-De-Vedas iconic rock venues, where we never got the chance to play before. People there were amazing, we were very well received, and it's the kind of experience you don't forget.
Finally, this concert would be the final performance of Between The Zones as a four-piece band in the post-"Shiftings" album era. Sadly, our bassist Nicolas wasn't available for this show, but we couldn't cancel such an opportunity to play with Hypno5e, so 1 month before the concert we asked my little brother Maxime to fill in for Nico. He worked his ass off and was able to learn the songs very quickly. We did only 2 rehearsals with Maxime, and it directly felt smooth and natural.
The concert itself went pretty well... I was pretty stressed (I think it shows when you listen to the moments inbetween songs when I talk to the audience) but musically we delivered what we could do best and this is one of the reasons why I decided to publish this, almost 4 years after the show.

I suppose some of you might wonder why releasing an old concert.
To be honest, I almost forgot that we had the recordings for this show (a stereo export from the mixing console, and an ambiant recording of the concert room), and I re-found the audio files in May 2017... After I listened a few times to the thing, I really thought "dammit, it wasn't bad!"- I mean, as you know, BTZ is not a live band anymore. We went back to this "ghostly existence" as I call it; making songs on computer, working remotely with eachother, and releasing songs and videos directly on the internet. BUT, in 2013, we were still a bunch of guys meeting every sunday afternoon in a rehearsal room and playing our songs, to make our music alive, and of course be ready for concerts, etc etc. So I thought: since this concert was the last of this era and that I had both audio footage and some videos as well, I should mix it and publish it, as a proof of what the band used to be between 2008 and 2013. A proof, a testimony, an evidence. Fun fact: in French, 'évidence' has a different meaning- it is the word that you can translate by 'obviousness' in English and I thought it was completely relevant in both meanings.
Personally, even if I still love making music for BTZ on my computer, playing for several years with these guys, who became like brothers to me, was an experience I will always cherish. Something that will remain very close to the idea I have of rock music and what collective creative work should be...

'Nuff said! This album is available for free on the Bandcamp of Délivrances. Enjoy! :)

Oh, by the way, I edited the video for "Her name was Thanatos" and put it on Youtube!

Have a nice weekend, and take care of yourselves. See you soon!

Hello there, worthy followers! :D

Troubles just got a pretty nice review in the latest issue (#27) of W-Fenec Magazine! We would like to send huge and warm thanks to them, and we invite you to read the last issue here:

Also, not directly BTZ-related but still music-related:

I recorded/mixed a song and shot a video with my friend (and gifted guitar player!) Benjamin for the contest #OldiesButBaddies organized by Spectre Sound Studios - we chose to make a metal cover of a cheesy French pop song from the 60's by Françoise Hardy!

Feel free to add some "blue thumbs up" if you want to support the music :)

As always, take care and talk soon :)

French rapper L.O.A.S remixed by BTZ

Here is our remix of "VLV", by French rap artist L.O.A.S!
I started working on this for fun last summer (back in june 2016, lol) using a home-made acappella track, and L.O.A.S was kind enough to send me his original vocal track so I could finish the remix. Mastering was once again done by Lulu from Primate Audio / Stolearm.

TROUBLES

Today is the day. Time to get into TROUBLES!

This second album is the outcome of 2 years and a half of struggling with life, influences, mixing, and the need for the project to survive with all band members living in different places.

Later I will probably tell you more about the writing/recording process behind the album and why I chose this name, but meanwhile, you can discover the music here (and of course, order the cd version if you like physical souvenirs):

Please, if you want to support the band, share this link with your social networks! Also, feel free to use the images featured in this post your profile and cover pictures :)

Bending waves

New single available on Youtube!  https://youtu.be/abgz8RVmPY4

I'd like to thank again my friend Elkin Zikkat for laying down these cool saxophone parts on the song; it was a great experiment to try to mix metal heavy riffs with fluid sax sounds, we had a lot of fun recording it in Nîmes last year!

If you like the song, feel free to share it with your buddies! Also, you can have a look at the full illustration I did for the single on my drawing blog: http://gombaka.blogspot.com

I don't want to spoil you, but there is something in the works that will be released very soon this December! It is not related to the album but if you enjoy what we do you will love it ;) Stay tuned and see you soon!

Changes are endless!

"Changes are endless" is the third single from "Troubles": https://youtu.be/tNKfNyu7pko

Believe it or not, this song is easily one of the most violent and uneasy musical things I ever worked on. Actually it's the opening song on the album, like a direct way of announcing the true colors of this record. I'd like to thank my dear friend Emilien (also from _URTS and Darla) for his contributions on the guitars, especially the chorus' evil riffs!

As usual, share it if you like it! See you next month!

Reaching

"Reaching" is the second single from "Troubles": http://youtu.be/FVCYUpRnigw

> Have a look at the artwork for this single on my drawing blog :3

This song is a special one and I feel extremely fortunate to have my Finland-based friend Bleiddian (April) as a guest vocalist on the song! Although this is a first try for BTZ, I believe it adds something epic and atmospheric to the music, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

The video itself was a little harder to put together than the previous one, as I didn't have much time to swap between making the illustration + putting parts in 3D + doing the editing. Feel free to comment and share it with your friends and fellow DIY music enthusiasts! :)

In case you didn't notice, I plan to release a new song/single every last day of the month, until this fall!

Take care of yourself, and spread the word.
